Full Details, JR Dash Blog Post -- Secrets of a Black Boy

This week I attended a preview showing of Secrets of Black Boy (see synopsis & schedule below). Like the gem of theatre ('da kink in my hair) created by trey anthony, now with her brother Darren as playwright, they have collaborated to produce one of the most honest, truthful gritty pieces of theatre I have seen in a long time. If you have young people in your life make Secrets a must see before it closes on October 3. This theatre of the soul will make you laugh, cry, dance in your seat and really, really think seriously. I can't recommend it more. Matinee regular individual tickets except Saturday are $21. Groups of 10 or more are $18.90. Evening shows are $40 - $68.50. There is a $4.50 service charge for tickets booked through the Music Hall box office(416 778 8163). Through TicketMaster the charge is $8.00. Visit the Music Hall site for more details

“ You really want to know what a Black man is thinking? Well the secret is out!”

Secrets of a Black Boy, the male response to ‘da Kink in my hair gives a thought-provoking look into the lives of black men. Secrets Of a Black Boy, executive produced by trey anthony from ‘da Kink in my Hair, and written by Darren Anthony. Is a theatrical production that takes place in modern day Toronto Ontario. It is a current and very urgent story outlining the displacement of families in Regent Park. Five friends gather inside a community centre about to be torn down, to say their goodbye one last time to the place they all called home for so long. The friends reminisce about what the community center means to them and the play becomes a much more urgent commentary about both the disintegration of Regent Park and the lives of the young men most affected by it.

Secrets Of a Black Boy is a gritty, uncensored look at the lives of black men. No subject is taboo from interracial dating, commitment phobia, gun violence, sexuality, and love. Every stereotype of black men will be critically examined and explored, subsequently, giving audiences a fresh, new and authentic experience!
